Atlanta Hip Hop

AHH hooked up with Wes Coas to discuss his history in Atlanta. First off, Wes Coas talks about his historical performances in Georgia and how Atlanta fueled his ambition to launch  ventures outside of music that include clothing and movie directing. With an upcoming short film being directed by Wes Coas in Atlanta, we have plenty to locally talk about.

AHH: Tell us about your performance history in Georgia.

Wes Coas: Atlanta has a great rap scene. Its always love when I’m there. It’s probably one of the more supportive places and Atlanta is definitely about the music.

AHH: How did working in Atlanta, Georgia fuel your ambition to launch clothing and movie directing ventures?

Wes Coas: Atlanta is like the black hollywood. From a fashion standpoint the clothing game, it is serious. I used to shop and ship clothes back to Houston. As far as the movie. I watched my sister Kim Jones produces films and really she released a film called ” 5 days in the A”. That kind of inspired me to take my experience in directing a few videos and skits and challenge myself outside of the music.

AHH: That’s the perfect sedgeway. Tell us about the short film you’re directing in Atlanta?

Wes Coas: The short film is something I think people can relate to. People have dreams and sometimes you have to come face to face with reality and by facing it, you often are able to see things materialize. I know its vague but its a hip hop based movie that I want to be seen as bigger and something that can be applied to the dreamer to help them make their dreams reality. Our main character is a hip hop artist who is bringing up a younger artist and helping to develop their talent but trying to see where he still fits. You will get to see the journey he embarks upon.

AHH: Sounds cool. How has the experience been behind the director’s chair?

Wes Coas: Really, we’re in pre-production right now so I’m not in the chair just yet. I just wear the hat but the writers and producers have really made my job great and they’re allowing me to develop an authentic vibe.

AHH: When can fans expect the film to be completed and released?

Wes Coas: Probably early next year; that’s when we plan on hitting the film circuit and then maybe a DVD/CD release or available for download on my site www.wescoas.com where you can also get my music

AHH:      What do you enjoy more – directing short films or making music?

Wes Coas: I’m an artist. I love making music and its complete expression of self but a finished product always feels the same. So I love the visual stuff as well but music is the first love. I’m just cheating with film.

AHH: What’s your favorite hot spot in Atlanta and why?

Wes Coas: That’s a good question; wherever I’m VIP (laughs).
